COVID-19 - An Enemy For Our Mankind

Corona - The Invisible Enemy !!

Introduction :-

Most of the people until today may have never heard of coronaviruses, but the diseases they have been recognized for over 52 years. Corona viruses were first identified by a group of virologists, who relayed their findings in 1968. These viruses are the members of previously unrecognized group which should be called as “Coronaviruses”, these are identified in the electron microscope. Coronaviruses were given their name based on the crown-like projections on their surfaces. “Corona” in Latin means “halo” or “crown”. Among humans, infection most often occurs during the winter months as well as early spring. Coronaviruses are single stranded RNA (Ribonucleic Acids) viruses, these are susceptible to mutation and recombination and are therefore highly diverse in nature. These viruses are about 40 different varieties in nature and they mainly infect human and non-human mammals and birds. These viruses can reside and infect in bats, wild birds and can spread to other animals and hence can spread to the humans as well. It is not uncommon for a person to become ill with a cold that is caused by a coronavirus and then catch it again about four months later. This is because coronavirus antibodies do not last for a very long time. Also, the antibodies for one strain of coronavirus may be useless against other strains.

Corona-Virus Disease 2019 ( COVID-19) :-

The novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, that emerged from a live animal market in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province in December 2019 is continuing to spread throughout the world, resulting in the on-going 2019-2020 corona-virus pandemic. The virus as of now has spread in more than 185 countries and territories throughout the world. Size and structure of COVID-19 :- The size of corona virus is between the range of 90mm to 100mm which considered to be visible with a help of electron microscope. This virus is obviously not visible to our human’s naked eyes and that is why the reason to call this virus as “Invisible enemy” for this mankind. COVID-19 is a spherical or pleomorphic enveloped particles containing single-stranded RNA associates with nucleoproteins within a capsid comprised of matrix protein. The envelope bears the club-shaped glycoproteins projections. Covid-19 possess the largest genomes amongst all known RNA viruses. Covid-19 binds to ACE2 (Angiotensin-converting-enzymes 2) by its spikes and allow covid19 to enter and infect cells. In order for the virus to complete entry into the cell following this initial process, the spike proteins has to be primed by an enzyme called a protease. In order to attach virus receptor to its cellular ligands, activation as a protease is needed.

Prevention’s for Corona-virus (COVID-19) :-

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus diseases 2020. The best way to prevent coronavirus is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The preventions and precautions to be taken are as follows :

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

• Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol based disinfectant solution before eating.

• Avoid visiting markets and places where live or dead animals are handled.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular households cleaning spray or wipe.

• Avoid contact with animals, their excretions or droppings.

Symptoms of COVID-19  :-

As Covid-19 is invisible enemy and cannot be seen, it easily affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate symptoms. On an average it takes 5 to 6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for the symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days. The common symptoms seen in a covid-19 infected patients are fever, tiredness, dry cough, aches and pains, nasal congestions, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea, headache, loss of taste, asthma, fatigue and many more symptoms. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and can even lead to death. This is what dis-advantage we have got towards this virus as it is not visible to our eyes and that is the reason most of the people in the world are getting infected and losing their precious life.

Recommendations to use face-masks :-

The experts do recommend that people who are well wear a face-mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID. Face-mask should be used by the people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the diseases to others. The use of face-mask is also crucial for health workers and other people who taking care of someone who is close to them. The best mask recommended by the experts is N95 respirators and surgical masks ( face masks ) are personal protective equipment’s that are used to protect the wearer from the airborne particles and from liquid contaminating the face.

Treatments for COVID-19 :-

There is no specific treatment for this disease so the approach used to treat the patients with corona-virus related infections is to treat the clinical symptoms. Supportive care, oxygen therapy, plasma therapy ,fluid managements and antivirals like hydroxychloroquine and many others are highly effective for those who are infected.

Conclusion :-

Hence yes, it’s very important to follow all the required rules prescribed by the experts so that least people get infected by this virus that is invisible. Yes, now is the time we do take care of our-self and as well as take care of others. Corona, the enemy that is declared globally which is increasing it-self rapidly and drastically. So, let’s make it happen and kill a virus for a first time which don’t have any antidote, but it do have a weakness that is maintaining “SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL DISTANCE” with each other and stay at home.

         THANK YOU..
